Walk from Piazza Dante to piazza della Vittoria

You cross the commercial and directional heart of Genoa, following the whole track of the central Via XX Settembre. Beyond Piazza Della Vittoria, arrival point of the itinerary, you can glance the towers of Corte Lambruschini.

Piazza Dante
Once this area was inhabited by Wool artisans, one of them was Domenico Colombo, Christopher’s father.

Via XX Settembre
Open in 1892-1900, it connected Piazza de Ferrari with Porta Pila and the Bisagno esplanade. Worth seeing are the façades along the route and the arcades flanking one side of the monumental bridge. Stores and elegant shops alternate with traditional shops of the typical Genoese shopping.

Museo di Storia naturale “Giacomo Doria”
Prestigious institution founded in 1867 by Giacomo Doria and in this seat since 1912. It contains about 3,5 Millions pieces, one of the richest zoological collections in Europe. Particularly interesting is the entomological collection, the most complete in Italy.

Piazza della Vittoria
Already parade ground, the current aspect is due to Marcello Piacentini, who designed the square after the covering of the river Bisagno. Piacentini projected also the Fallen Arch located in the centre of the square, which is decorated with a garden in which flowers design the motif of the three Columbus’ caravels.
